Meet the Big Red Oak Plantation Team
Owner and Founder: Arthur Estes, the founder of Big Red Oak Plantation, is a sixth generation family member to live and work on the land. The property started with a mere few hundred acres, and with buying, selling and re-buying, the family was able to build the plantation to 2,500 acres over the last seven generations. The land was originally used in the cotton business -- growing, buying and merchandising. Unfortunately (or fortunately!), the bottom fell out in cotton in the late 1970’s, so with Arthur’s vision he combined his lifelong passion of quail hunting and bird dogs and founded “Big Red Oak Plantation” in 1976. He is married to the Honorable Stiles Allen Estes and has one son, Rob Estes.
"I want to successfully pass on a lifetime of love for the outdoors to my son, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and the friends I have made developing this land so many have come to love."
President and CEO: Rob Estes is the seventh generation family member to live and work on the land of Big Red Oak Plantation. Rob inherited the gene of his father’s love of the outdoors, shown by his dedication to helping Big Red Oak Plantation continue to thrive for today and tomorrow. Rob was born and raised near Gay, Georgia, and now lives in Newnan, Georgia. He graduated from the University of Georgia (UGA) with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree. He later married his high school sweetheart, the beautiful Christi Estes. Rob and Christi have two children, Robert Estes, Jr., and Sara Ashley Estes. Rob is the CEO of ESTES LANDSCAPE, INC., based in Sharpsburg, Georgia. “I love being outside -- whether in the garden, deep in the woods, or meeting with clients to design their dream homes, the wilderness is my passion.” Big Red Oak Plantation is a huge part of his family’s day to day life, and preserving the Estes family legacy is his mission. "Six generations of presiding over a family business and land is a remarkable accomplishment. It is my hope that I can build on my father’s vision and that we (Big Red Oak Plantation) can continue to grow and secure this land through conservation easements for many future generations of family and friends to enjoy."
Vice-President: Dr. Thomas Estes was born and raised in Gay, Georgia, and currently lives in Moultrie, Georgia. Dr. Estes earned degrees from the University of Georgia and Medical College of Georgia. He is married to the lovely Jennie Keith Estes, and together they have raised a wonderful family full of children and grandchildren. Dr. Estes, like his brother and sister, has a great passion for family heritage. Thomas will work diligently to ensure that conservation and preservation will remain a top priority for Big Red Oak Plantation.
COO: Bill Keith was born and raised in Gay, Georgia. He earned a Bachelor's degree in marketing from Georgia Southern University. Bill takes great pride in ensuring that he and his sisters, Jessica Funderburk and Lauren Oliver, and other family and friends will have Big Red Oak Plantation to enjoy for many years to come. Bill spent most of his youth working dogs with Gary Miller and Junior Harris and has been passionate about hunting his entire life. Bill killed his first turkey on the property by age eleven and started guiding quail hunters at the age of sixteen. While in college, he worked part time as a hunting guide on several preserves near Statesboro, Georgia, and would come home to guide at Big Red Oak on weekends.
"Big Mike" Bashaw - Mike "lives and breathes Big Red Oak Plantation." He was born and raised in California but found his way to Gay, Georgia.
